Civil Cases:
Private citizens sue eachother
Small claims involving less than $10,000
Money disputes (contract violation, damaged property)

Criminal Cases:
Lawsuit between citizen and the state
Infractions -
Minor violations often involving a fine
Misdemeanors
- More serious crime (such as shoplifting) that can include fines up to $1,000 or up to a year in jail

- Most serious crime (such as murder) that can lead to severe punishment
